The state of Mississippi was one of the first outside of Nevada to make sports betting legal. In fact, only Delaware and New Jersey were quicker to open their doors to this massive money-making industry.
Mississippi accepted wagers for the first time on August 1, 2018 at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi and Gold Strike Casino in Robinsonville. By the end of the month there were 20 different commercial casinos that were taking bets and that number has grown even more.
For almost a year, Mississippi was the only state in the southeast region of the U.S. where sports betting was legal. It wasn’t until July of 2019 that Arkansas, which Mississippi shares a border with joined the fold.
By the end of next year (2021) there is expected to be only 10 states in the U.S., where you won’t be able to place a bet.
As far as the Southeast, Tennessee and North Carolina are both legal pending, Louisiana and Florida aren’t far behind, while Alabama and Georgia are both expected to join in the mix in 2021. Leaving South Carolina as the only state where it’s not legal.

Mississippi Online Sports Wagering & Mobile Gaming
While sports betting is clearly a big deal in the state of Mississippi, online wagering has not yet made its way into the fold. All bets must be placed in person at one of the sportsbooks.
The only exception to that being three tribal casinos (Bok Homa, Golden Moon & Silver Star), which offer mobile betting. However, all mobile betting at these locations must be done on the premises of the casino.
